Good morning. Celebrating 2yrs since the release of Donnie Yeska this month. The project stems from convos I’d have with my grandpa about the term “Iyeska” which used to be used as a derogatory term, but it’s more than that. I seen the ones I come from, like on the Ducheneaux side, and the warrior things they’ve done and do in government - strictly for the people. My grandpa raised me to be that way in whatever it is that I do, so here I am. The Don, Iyeska. Code name: Donnie Yeska.
Donnie Donnie Donnie

What gave this dude the nerve??
I’ve been slowly working on this other side project… @freemarionettes

Donnie Yeska turned 2 this month. Don Iyeska comes from conversations I used to have with my grandpa about the term Iyeska. For a while it was used to offend and call someone a “mutt” basically, but he’d teach me that it meant translator. How important it is to have people in diff ways translate things and represent for each other. Idk, the album was me trying to blend and make sense, but also empower myself somehow.

2 years ago - Don Iyeska released. I grew up hearing about the “Iyeska” term from my gpa bcuz he was called it. In older books, it even said “mutt” or “half breed” - in reality, it meant translator. Translators can do a lot, if mind heart and spirit remains in a good place.
My grandma Helena Harrison has always been my hero. Any moment I had with her before she passed when I was young are things that stay with me and give me assurance. In a crazy world, where I’m not perfect, she and her story gives me hope and confidence to always keep going. She loved red roses, but it’s me so lol purple rose it is 💜
Thank you so much @phuzion_storm_tattoo for your warmth and hospitality, for your skills, talents and work in making this idea come to life in a beautiful way 🙏

Once again, so thankful to @lakotayouth , Wakinyan, all the staff at CRYP for the work you do & for providing this opportunity to workshop open mic magic w/the youth!
I was so impressed with the content everyone had, but also their bravery. Everyone shared something, whether it was a poem, image, beadwork, even beats that were made. We talked about how we’re a society of performers, so it’s important to be good relatives & support each other as audience too. It makes me really excited with the vibes they’ll continue to cultivate with & for each other.
A couple of the interns made me these beautiful pieces of art 💜🙏
Tomorrow night is the beginning of a new show I’m hosting on @kipiradio ! 93.5FM or kipiradio.com 8-9pm MST - Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays.
It’s official! Starting Tuesday, Jan. 27th, I’m making a return to radio to host a new show, “Reservation Pavement” on @kipiradio (also available online livestream).
So grateful for this opportunity. I have always loved radio, and to get to do so on my tribe’s radio station, which is already stacked with so many talented DJs & people behind the scenes is a real delight.
Hope to see you then!!! If you’ve heard any of my previous shows or podcasts, I hope you enjoy this new chapter 💜
My 2016? NGL to you, I had started it w/suicidal ideation & what was a secret attempt. 10 years later? Back in the same spot it happened, but completely new circumstances, with new & old relatives as I got to be a part of this wonderful short film as a sound apprentice. Even now, I find myself receiving messages from ones like Razelle & Justin Deegan & others - checking in, sharing links to more things I can soak up. To even say I got to work with this crew & cast… all I can say is - if you’re struggling out there - stay here please. You never ever know, even when you feel like you do. What’s waiting for you one day from now, one year from now, one decade from now….
I’m grateful I stayed. I’m grateful for this life. I’m grateful for relatives old & new, here & gone.

Coming soon! 2nd part to the project w/ Galen Alboito Howard
All my life I’ve looked up to my Uncle Willard Walters - the way he walks and speaks and acts. I admire his strength and always wanted to be strong like guys like him. Us with Leksi Bob Ross in the back last night 🤣 love you fr thank you for everything.

16 years ago I was 16, and I wrote this song for my late-cousin Zane Azure, because my late-Grandpa Everette Harrison told me, if I’m a rapper, I should make a song for him. In it, I talked about my honest feelings, which was rare for me back then (if you can believe it lol).
I wrote this in pain, but today I see myself living and l’m so grateful to thunkasila for allowing me to remain. I can’t wait to share more about the week l’ve had, the relatives l’ve both made and reconnected with, the good feeling I feel. For now, I have this thing.
I recorded this after one of the nights of the film shoot.
