Congratulations to the Wicahpi Olowan Music Program, located at the Oglala Lakota Artspace and made possible by @1stpeoplesfund and its close partnership with @playingforchangefoundation . This compilation features Oceti Sakowin artists, mainly Oglala Lakota, who had utilized the studio up to early 2024. This could not be made possible without those artists, producers and engineers who all contributed their beautiful works to this project. Thank you, Wopila, for representing together in a great way and proving the impact & importance of music access for all. Other prominent engineers/producers on this project and in this program during this time were @terrancejade3 @stellastandingbear @tianaanpowin_st & @santeewitt but cannot forget the 20+ artists who breathed life into the studio either 💜🙏 As you can tell from the release date, we’re due for a volume 2! But beyond that, the only thing I really have to say is that it is my sincere hope, that all tribes can one day have studios, plethoras of alternative venues and ways for us to all connect across turtle island. Work our own network that operates within each tribe's values. Music, regardless of topic, time, genre or even intent, is sacred. I truthfully believe we can find better things in this world through a conscious effort of supporting all music. Each of these artists, and so too the ones who’ve come to the studio after them, deserve beaded medallions. Once again, I thank them and the orgs for their contributions, and to all the community who has supported these artists, the artspace and the studio. And of course, a sincere Wopila to the @nativemusicawards for recognizing this compilation in such an awesome way. Was unreal to hear last night! Thank you to those who made it possible for us to enter in the first place.
